Let Go of Your Security Blanket And You Will See My Glory

Writer: Rosangela AtteRosangela Atte

As I prayed for a fresh word from the Lord for the month of March and the season ahead, He said: "If My people want to get unstuck and grow in every area, they need to let go of their security blanket!"

What is a Security Blanket?

A security blanket is anything, other than God and His Word, that we use to help us cope with fear and anxiety. It replaces our dependence on God and gives us a false sense of security.

Definitions:

- Collins:Something that provides someone with a feeling of safety and comfort when they are in a situation that worries them or makes them feel nervous.

- Oxford: Something that provides reassurance.

- Cambridge: An object that is very familiar to a baby or child and makes them feel safe. Something that makes you feel safe or confident. It is used as a tool to control and reduce anxiety.

A very interesting fact about security blankets is that in the 1920s, they were used to cover and fasten a child to the bed with clips so the child could not uncover themselves or move while sleeping.

Anxiety is the absence of peace, which often comes from not relying on God and His promises and not spending time in prayer.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV)

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Fear vs. Faith

Fear is the antithesis of faith, which comes from reading the Word of God.

Romans 10:17 (NKJV)

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

If we shift our focus from what causes us anxiety and instead fix our eyes on Jesus and His promises, He will fill us with peace.

Reading the Word is the only way to know God and His character. He is trustworthy; He always fulfills His promises.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV)

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Obedience Leads to Growth

Feeling secure in our faith and walk with the Lord enables us to live a life of obedience. When we obey His commands, we align ourselves with His will, which is always for our good and His purpose.

Keeping our heads under the security blanket blinds us from seeing with the eyes of faith! It stunts our spiritual growth and keeps us confined in a cycle of fruitlessness and stagnation.

A Vision from the Lord

The Lord showed me a vision of a cute white cottage with a beautifully manicured garden enclosed by a white picket fence. Each year, the garden produced the same amount of vegetables, enough to feed the owner’s family. He was content tending his small plot.

Then the Lord said:

“Rosangela, look beyond the white picket fence. What do you see?”

I looked and saw acres of fertile, overgrown land stretching in every direction—North, South, East, and West.

I asked, “Lord, who does this land belong to?”

He replied, “It belongs to the man who owns the cottage.”

I was shocked and asked, “Lord, why does he cultivate only that tiny piece of land when he has so much more? He could bless others, build homes, schools, and farms. Why does he let it sit idle?”

The Lord answered:

“His eyes are blinded because his head is covered by his security blanket. Many of My children are afraid of change. They don’t want to put in the work or make the sacrifices needed to reach greater levels. They fear stepping out in faith, so they remain stuck in an infantile state, never maturing.

They were meant to soar like eagles, yet they remain as larvae, crawling through life.

By refusing to uncover their heads and let go of their false sense of security, they forfeit their inheritance. I will not let it sit idly; I will give it to those who obey My instructions—those who trust Me and are willing to step onto the water. Those who are not afraid to leave everything familiar to follow Me.

I will give it to those willing to sacrifice their comfort and security for My purposes. Those who worship Me not just with their lips, but with their whole lives!

Their obedience is a form of worship, and true worship requires sacrifice. True worship costs something!”

The Cost of True Worship

Genesis 22:3-6 (NKJV)

Abraham called sacrificing his only son an act of worship! True worship requires sacrifice, suffering, stretching, and letting go of many people, places, and things.

Abraham left everything familiar to obey God and fulfill his destiny as the father of nations. He believed beyond hope, and his faith was credited to him as righteousness.

Romans 4:3 (AMP)

“For what does the Scripture say? ‘ABRAHAM BELIEVED IN (trusted, relied on) GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIS ACCOUNT AS RIGHTEOUSNESS (right living, right standing with God).’”

Genesis 15:5-7 (NLT)

5 Then the LORD took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants

you will have!” 6 And Abram believed the LORD, and the LORD counted him as righteous because of his faith.7 Then the LORD told him, “I am the LORD who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land as your possession.”

Romans 4:18-19 NLT

18 Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping—believing that he would become the father of many nations. For God had said to him, “That’s how many descendants you will have!”[e] 19 And Abraham’s faith did not weaken, even though, at about 100 years of age, he figured his body was as good as dead—and so was Sarah’s womb.

Are You Ready?

The only way to see God's glory is to live by faith and let go of your security blanket!

Stepping out of the boat is the only way to remove the veil covering your spiritual eyes.

Keeping your eyes on Jesus is the only way to walk without drowning.

• Are you ready to grow up?

• Are you ready to come out of hiding?

• Are you ready to see what lies beyond your white picket fence?

Matthew 13:15-21 (AMP)

‘YOU WILL HEAR and KEEP ON HEARING, BUT NEVER UNDERSTAND;

AND YOU WILL LOOK and KEEP ON LOOKING, BUT NEVER COMPREHEND;

15 FOR THIS NATION’S HEART HAS GROWN HARD,

AND WITH THEIR EARS THEY HARDLY HEAR,

AND THEY HAVE [tightly] CLOSED THEIR EYES,

OTHERWISE THEY WOULD SEE WITH THEIR EYES,

AND HEAR WITH THEIR EARS,

AND UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART, AND TURN [to Me]

AND I WOULD HEAL THEM [spiritually].’

16 But blessed [spiritually aware, and favored by God] are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. 17 I assure you and most solemnly say to you, many prophets and righteous men [who were honorable and in right standing with God] longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.

The Sower Explained

18 “Listen then to the [meaning of the] parable of the sower: 19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom [regarding salvation] and does not understand and grasp it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the one on whom seed was sown beside the road. 20 The one on whom seed was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and at once welcomes it with joy; 21 yet he has no [substantial] root in himself, but is only temporary, and when pressure or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he stumbles and falls away [abandoning the One who is the source of salvation]. 22 And the one on whom seed was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the worries and distractions of the worldand the deceitfulness [the superficial pleasures and delight] of riches choke the word, and it yields no fruit. 23 And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands and grasps it; he indeed bears fruit and yields, some a hundred times [as much as was sown], some sixty [times as much], and some thirty.”

Thank you! This is so timely, as I recently had a dream in which I attempted to remove a white comfort blanket stuck on a branch in order to cover myself. Suddenly, an eagle made an appearance and signaled for me to follow. Without hesitation, I proceeded to walk towards it and then ran in order to soar alongside the majestic bird.
